UC Irvine cuts ties with men's basketball coach (AP via Yahoo! Sports)
Pat Douglass is out after 13 seasons as UC Irvine men's basketball coach. Athletic director Mike Izzi said Thursday in a faxed statement that Douglass' contract won't be renewed. He says the decision will allow Irvine to move the program in a new direction with the goal of being in the upper tier of the Big West Conference yearly and competing in the NCAA tournament.

UConn's wins not necessarily a victory for women's basketball (USA Today)
I'm worried about women's basketball. It's this UConn thing. How is it possible that in a game being played in an organized manner by hundreds of thousands of girls and women from the ages of 6 or 7 on up that one excellent college team cannot find even one other school that can come within single digits of it over two seasons?
